We are organizing an all-class reunion for the Science Fiction (and Fantasy) Alliance at Carleton College, and its predecessor the Doctor Who Club.
Minicon 50 has graciously agreed to host our 30th anniversary reunion. This convention runs April 2-5, 2015 (Easter weekend), in a large hotel near the Minneapolis airport.
We will at minimum have a meet-and-greet for Carleton SFA alums, which we hope to have on Saturday. We have also reserved two rooms for the whole convention, one to hang out in and one to watch TV (or whatever) in.
We intend to have other special nostalgic events to be determined; and of course you can attend the rest of the convention. All attendees must register for Minicon; please pre-register for Minicon as early as possible so that we can get a handle on numbers. Minicon registration price is $40 until March 5, higher after that. (Lower for kids & students.) Minicon has also asked us to ask people to please consider volunteering, as the convention is volunteer-run and the more people who attend, the more volunteers are needed.
Minicon 50 and our event will be at the Doubletree By Hilton Bloomington - Minneapolis South. The hotel has free shuttles from the airport and the Mall of America.
Reserve rooms directly at the hotel website or by phone at 1-800-222-8733, or 1-952-835-7800. (As of 12/23/2014, the link from the Minicon website still has the wrong rates.) Use group code "MCN" to get the convention rate ($92/night for one or two people, +$10 each for the third or fourth person), which is good for reservations all the way from the night of March 31 through the night of April 5th. The special hotel rates must be booked by March 15th, although the hotel is expected to still have rooms available after that (it's huge).
Of course you are welcome to come to the events even if you have found somewhere else in the area to sleep.
We have a Facebook group. There is a lot of active discussion and planning there.
There is also a Facebook event page, so if you're on Facebook you can let other people know that you're planning to come.
If you want to email the lead organizer, email Nathanael Nerode at admin (at) carleton-sfa-reunion.org.
We had a Discussion Board (now deleted). It was not very active though. Most discussion has been on Facebook.
We are also trying to assemble a contact list of SFA alums for this and any future events; ANY help with this would be appreciated. Contact Nathanael or the Facebook group.
(In case you were wondering, it proved impractical to host the event at Carleton this year. Planning this has been a comedy of errors, but hopefully it will all work out.)
